Natural Bridge, VA Bear Attack!

We went to the Natural Bridge in Virginia the other day and it was massive. They say that it is taller than Niagara Falls. George Washington did the surveying of the land and Thomas Jefferson bought it at some point. Jefferson was having financial difficulty later on and needed to sell it. It was always his wish that the land would become a national park. In 2016 it finally became a park and Jefferson's dream was realized. You can maybe get a glimpse of how tall the bridge is if you look at the tiny person closest to being underneath the bridge. If you pinch your fingers together you could crush him.

But what about the bear attack? Just hold on, I will get to it! While we were visiting the Natural Bridge we also decided to go on a cave tour. It was a really impressive and fun tour. Pam was constantly concerned that the walls and ceiling would cave in on us. Luckily, we made it out alive. At one point our guide turned all the lights out. I put my hand to my face to experience just how dark it was. I literally couldn't see my hand an inch from my face. It was Pam's opportunity to smack my own hand to my face but, alas, I was injury-free when the lights finally came back on. Here I am, still happy to have a face (apparently caves have a negative effect on the focus of the camera).

The bear Dean! What about the bear? I still have more to tell you, so be patient. Yesterday we went on a hike just off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was a great hike but, more importantly, we didn't see another single person while on the trail. The woods here grow somewhat strangely. They grow, naturally, with bends and curves. I have finally found where Home Depot gets their 2x4s!

This picture was taken after we finished hiking, don't ask me about the crazy eyes because I have no idea!

Ok, so I wasn't really mauled by a bear. The gift shop at the Natural Bridge had this stuffed bear and I at least had to pretend. Sorry for the disappointment. I know you all wished and hoped it was a real mauling!

Finally, a couple of photos on our drive home from the hike yesterday. It was a beautiful drive and so picturesque! Happy trails!
